Business Context
After Andersen’s delivery team successfully rolled out the aforementioned solution, the project was transitioned to managed services for the web platform to maintain stability, monitor performance, and provide ongoing support.
Challenges
The three major challenges to overcome with our managed services for the web platform were:
- Transitioning a complex, newly engineered system from the development phase into steady-state operations;
- Ensuring round-the-clock availability and the best possible performance;
- Implementing dependable monitoring and incident response processes to minimize the risk of downtime.
The task was of extreme importance, as any failure to meet these requirements could have exposed the customer to operational risks, regulatory non-compliance, and a loss of user trust.
Project overview
The rationale for engaging Andersen’s team was to leverage our comprehensive managed services for the web platform, focusing on maintaining stability, enhancing security, and driving continuous optimization on AWS. The partnership was structured around three key phases: discovery, transition, and steady-state operations.
About the project
App functionality
Andersen harnessed a comprehensive range of AWS services to meet the customer’s needs:
- Amazon EC2 to provide computing power and virtual instances for software applications;
- Amazon DynamoDB to provide a NoSQL, key-value database for data storage;
- Amazon ECS/EKS to manage container orchestration and provide tools for scaling applications;
- Amazon RDS to manage relational database services (RDBMS);
- AWS Lambda to run and handle serverless, event-driven functions;
- Amazon S3 for object (file) storage;
- Amazon CloudWatch to collect logs, metrics, and events, as well as to visualize and manage them through dashboards;
- Amazon SNS for notifications and message delivery through a centralized messaging bus.
Solution
While providing managed services for the web platform, Andersen followed a phased approach encompassing discovery, transition, and steady-state operations. As a result, we have fully addressed the customer’s requirements across the following areas:
- Change and release management: reviewing and controlling the deployment of application changes to minimize the risk of downtime;
- Capacity management: scaling EC2 instances, Kubernetes clusters, and storage resources in response to demand;
- Incident and problem management: monitoring, triaging, and resolving incidents with root cause analysis to prevent recurrence;
- Backup and recovery: maintaining verified automated backups of databases and imaging data, supported by tested recovery procedures.
- Performance optimization: proactively tuning AWS resources and system configurations to enhance response times and cost efficiency;
Project results
With Andersen’s managed services in place, the customer saw clear gains in reliability, compliance, and operational efficiency:
- 99.95% platform uptime, guaranteeing uninterrupted access for the customer's clients;
- Shorter system response times with a smoother experience.
As a result, the customer can now concentrate on growing their offerings while entrusting Andersen to provide stable and continuous AWS operations.
