About the project

Andersen was engaged by a leading insurance company to perform a business analysis audit aimed at improving scalability, collaboration, and knowledge distribution across their business and IT landscape. The customer heavily relied on a single staff member and faced unclear collaboration between product owners and analysts and misalignment in cross-team cooperation. To overcome these challenges, they sought external expertise and proven best practices.

Challenges

The reasons why Andersen was approached for assistance included a combination of strategic and operational challenges:

  • Overreliance on a single Lead Business Analyst who possessed most of the project knowledge and was the primary decision-maker, which created a critical bottleneck;
  • Absence of clearly defined collaboration processes between product owners and business analysts, which brought about inefficiencies in requirements gathering, prioritization, and decision-making;
  • Difficulties in scaling processes across multiple teams and projects.

Solution

To achieve the goals pursued by the customer, Andersen:

  • Conducted a series of structured interviews with business analysts, systems analysts, and project managers;
  • Analyzed such key areas as PO-BA collaboration, requirements elicitation practices, PO involvement, and inter-team dependencies;
  • Developed a report with findings and proposed improvements, including a standardized requirements elaboration process and best practices for collaboration with product owners.

Project results

Andersen achieved all the objectives set by the customer:

  • Introduced a scalable, structured process for requirements elaboration, significantly reducing reliance on individual experts;
  • Defined clear roles and responsibilities for product owners and business analysts, leading to improved collaboration and faster decision-making;
  • Increased consistency across the 17 teams, enabling greater scalability and smoother onboarding of new team members.
