About the Client
Andersen was contracted by ABB Electrification – one of the world’s leaders in electrical technologies that is active in over 100 countries and runs a 50,000-strong global talent pool. The customer needed dependable and cost-effective IT software to create designs and re-build the web presence for their ABB Smart Societies initiative. With our extensive experience in 3D graphic design websites, our company was chosen as a competent IT partner for the re-development of their interactive presentation platform and microsite with impactful 3D graphics. The resulting web presence was expected to showcase the tech potential and offerings the customer provides for smart cities, industries, and infrastructures. As for the purpose of the site, it was intended for the customer's employees to promote their continuously evolving ecosystem that enables people to live, work, and commute in a more intelligent, protected, and sustainable fashion.

About the project
Andersen's team made a major effort to re-develop a high-resolution and 3D graphics-based website. This presence showcases the broad range of ABB's offerings and project information via an interactive and dynamic navigation system. As such, it was expected to enable visitors to learn about the customer’s initiative at several interconnected levels and with a great degree of detail. Practically, we improved its responsiveness and performance, introduced modularity, ensured the future-proof implementation of the code, added new advanced functionalities, and adopted a fresher and more effective stack – in this case, React.
Entrusted with such an ambitious task, our specialists set up and guided the process of creating 3D website design for ABB Electrification. Andersen closely collaborated with the customer's engineers by extending their in-house software development and cyber security team with our experienced Full-stack engineers. This was done in order to comply with the internal requirements. As a result, it became possible to build a series of powerful cross-platform applications with the maximum number of advanced data maintenance functionalities fully addressing customer needs.
Solution
The resulting 3D website example fully matches the customer's expectations:
- It showcases the customer's progressive and technological nature;
- It allows users to gradually dive deeper into the Smart City project, exploring it step by step;
- The advanced system of data maintenance is enabled with a powerful and intuitive WYSIWYG editor. Via it, the customer's internal team can easily manage, change, and add new content;
- Comprehensive project documentation for future development and upgrades was created by our team.
Challenges
In order to deliver and release the site on time, our team had to overcome significant challenges. The deadlines were tough, and there were no graphic models – so we had to generate them from scratch. In spite of that, we accomplished all the following stages in full conformity with the schedule when creating this 3D website design example:
- Building an offline version to support the ABB sales & marketing team during trade fairs;
- Synchronizing the site content with the central server;
- Engineering the desktop application (exe);
- Working with the graphics editor tool;
- Creating an importer/exporter for simplified yet effective data support and maintenance – as a result, data from unstructured files used by the customer's sales and marketing teams before our cooperation could be effectively and easily applied to develop the site.

The site is actively used by ABB's team for marketing purposes. For example, sales experts use it to pitch potential clients and distributors with relevant offerings.
