About the project

Our customer was the postal operator that is responsible for the issuing of postage stamps, the delivery of mail, parcel service, EMS, third-party logistics, deposit accounts. The Russian Post has come up with an idea to develop modern software for the Point-of-Sale terminals with an ability to assign an identification number for each mailing unit, for these units to be registered in the single accounting and control system. In this regard, the customer’s representatives contacted Andersen.

Delivered Solution

To put this idea into practice, the Andersen’s team used Microsoft Dynamics AX for Retail POS which has the main and constant part together with a number of modules or extension points that can undergo changes for customized solutions. Thus, a POS terminal has the form of a computer, a fiscal data recorder, and a barcode scanner.

The new software made possible a number of important functions: delivering of payments as well as the transfer of money, e.g. Western Union; checking out post-office goods with the help of a barcode scanner; mailing of packages with an assigned registered number.

Project Results

Andersen’s team built and developed a solution which significantly improves the work of the postal operator’s departments. As soon as a post-office staffer receives a package, they register it with the POS terminal and give it a certain status. All postal stations’ databases are united in regional networks which, in turn, are united in one central database as the server end is one and common. Now all senders, receivers, and post-office workers can see the status of mailings and track them.
